Dr. Hong's (of UCLA) Robots |

B2-Bomber, one of the aircraft modeled after peregrine falcons. |
Robotics and mechanization is very close to my heart as this
is essentially my major. As an aerospace engineer my job is to create
autonomous airplanes. But of course airplanes by nature are beautiful because
usually the more sleek designs are, the more aerodynamic and efficient the aircraft
is.
As can be seen in Dr Hong’s robots, robotics inherently involves artistic
skills to make the robots look friendly and approachable. This ensures that the
society will be accepting of these robots.

Iron Man from Avengers |
Many societies are reluctant to accept industrialization but
become more accepting as industrialization/mechanization makes their lives
easier. This phenomena can be seen in the Avengers movies. Most of the society
is very reluctant of Tony Stark’s Iron Man as they are afraid of the destruction
it could cause. The UN even tries to regulate the Avengers as they are afraid of the potential power that Tony Stark's Iron Man could possess. However, as time goes on, and Earth is the subject of many intergalactic attacks, the UN realizes the technology’s usefulness
in helping protect the planet. The society becomes more accepting of the new robotic technology after witnessing the usefulness of the said technology. Essentially, they fully accept Iron Man when Iron man saves humanity from impending doom in Age of Ultron.

Based on your perspective and tone, it seems as if you have a positive outlook on the future of robotics. While I do believe that robots are increasingly being portrayed as friendly and approachable, I do not think it will ensure that society will accept robots. In fact, personally, I am not a proponent of robotics because I think they are slowly encroaching on human nature. It is interesting that you bring up the example of Iron Man because I do not know if I would consider Iron Man a true robot, since Tony Stark is Iron Man and Tony Stark is human and thus possesses human characteristics such as having feelings, making mistakes, and possessing a unique personality.
